Carmella Peet Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Phillips Funeral Home - Corning on Dec. 23, 2023.

Carmella "Connie" Peet passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, mere days before her 74th birthday. A life-long resident of Corning, New York, Connie was born on Christmas Eve in 1949 to Clayton and Helen Brewer. She graduated from Corning-Painted Post East High School in 1967 and attended SUNY Brockport.
While working as a secretary in the offices of Corning lawyer Harry Treinin, she met Michael Peet, whom
she later married on September 18, 1976.
She was active in her faith community in her younger years. Along with her mother, she designed and sewed gowns for the Infant of Prague statue at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Corning's Northside. After caring for her mother and raising three children, Connie returned to the Corning-Painted Post School District in 1989, beginning as a monitor and ultimately completing a thirty year career in educational support as an administrative assistant. Her time at East High School was marked by her popularity amongst the student body, many of whom she befriended.
Connie enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening, talents learned from her mother and father, respectively. Her father also instilled a love of New York Yankee baseball in both her and her younger brother. She was an avid crafter. She loved music, particularly Elvis Presley and The Beach Boys. She loved to collect American Bald Eagle and snowman paraphernalia. But more than anything, she loved her family and spending time with them. Whether it was a picnic in the park, a trip out of state to visit loved ones, or attending an Elmira Jackals hockey game, she was happiest when she was around her family.
Carmella is survived by her sons, Richard (Leslie Mulcahy) and Thomas (Anne Haefner); her daughter, Michele (Ted) Minner; grandchildren Katya Mulcahy, Olivia Peet and Jon Minner; sister-in-law Beth Brewer and brother-in-law, Richard (Evon) Peet; several nieces and nephews; many extended family and a multitude of friends and acquaintances.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Thomas Brewer, her husband Michael, her brother-in-law Thomas and his wife Marilyn Peet, and her beloved canine companion Bailey. Carmella's legacy is the family she had, the family she raised, and the relationships she forged. She would want the world to know that she loved fiercely and without prejudice, and fought for and protected those she loved. She would want everyone to know that her husband Michael was her lifelong partner, and that her love for him was immeasurable.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, December 29, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Phillips Funeral Home, 17 W. Pulteney Street, in Corning, New York. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM with Fr. Patrick Connor officiating. Following the service, interment will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery, alongside her beloved husband.
Memorial donations can be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, Corning Meals on Wheels, or the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
